Mike Swick wants Matt Hughes or GSP
by Natalia Baage on September 24, 2009

After hearing that Matt Hughes didn't want to fight his teammate, Josh Koscheck, Mike Swick commented on a potential fight with him.

"Hughes, just read u don't want to fight Koscheck," wrote Swick this morning via Twitter. "Then why not me? Is it cause I'm too skinny? I'll eat more if you want! ;) I need a fight!!... Or GSP! I would love to get that call too! I can bring an element into this fight that no one has before... Punches in Bunches!"

Swick (14-2) was set to fight in a title contention bout against Martin Kampmann at UFC 103. The winner of that fight would then get to fight welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre.

However, Swick was forced to pull out of that title contention bout after suffering a concussion that he received during training. According to Swick, he was training with Koscheck when it happened. Koscheck swept Swick, who landed on his head. The injury was not too serious, but it was enough to keep him from getting into the Octagon with Kampmann. Swick has not yet been given a new opponent.

When it was announced in early Sept. that Matt Hughes (43-7) signed a new multi-fight contract with the UFC, a Hughes vs. Swick fight looked possible. While no opponent or date has been named for either fighter, Hughes did say that "one name the UFC did bring up is a person I've never fought before." Hughes and Swick have never fought each other before.
