Mirko Filipovic has recently voiced his interest in a second fight against fellow heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Coming off of a "Submission of the Night" victory over Pat Barry at UFC 115 last month, the legendary Croatian fighter heard of Nogueira's remarks that he would like a rematch of their first fight, which took place nearly seven years ago.
"That would be a fight I could not refuse," Cro Cop wrote to Fighters Only via text.
"Since 2003, its inside of me to have a rematch with Nogueira, definitely," Cro Cop continued in an interview with Fighters Only. "He is one of the true legends, a pioneer of the sport, former Pride champion and former UFC champion as well. It would be a very interesting rematch for me."
The pair first fought in November 2003 at Pride Final Conflict. During the second round, Nogueira secured an armbar and became Pride's interim heavyweight champion. Not only did Nogueira hand Crop Cop the first loss of his career, but it is still the only time Cro Cop has lost via submission (his loss to Junior dos Santos was ruled a verbal submission).
Now that both men are in the UFC and have both expressed interest in a rematch, fans might have the opportunity to see the former Pride champions battle inside the Octagon.
While Cro Cop went through some hard times last year, especially after falling prey to dos Santos at last September's UFC 103, he has been back on the winning trail, racking up wins over the aforementioned Barry and Anthony Perosh at UFC 110.
However, although both men do not have upcoming fights schedules, the Croatian is in no hurry to step back inside the cage.
"I am still thinking about what to do and right now I need some rest," he said. "I will talk with Lorenzo and we will see. I just need motivation right now."
