British slugger Al-Turk has had a tough road in his UFC career thus far. He has competed inside the UFC's Octagon twice and in both occasions he was dealt tough draws in the form of elite kickboxers Cheick Kongo and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.
Al-Turk was completely obliterated by Kongo in his UFC debut and was finished by "Cro Cop" after suffering an accidental illegal eye-poke. Despite back-to-back TKO losses, Al-Turk was given a chance to redeem himself against Rolles Gracie at UFC 109.
Unfortunately due to visa issues, Al-Turk was unable to make it to Las Vegas for the fight and Joey Beltran stepped in to face Gracie instead. Now, the English striker will meet HIT Squad member Jon Madsen at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.
Madsen is an All-American wrestler who is most recognized for his stint on season ten of The Ultimate Fighter. His preliminary tournament fight with Abe Wagner on the show was considered the bloodiest fight in the series history. Madsen was knocked out in the quarterfinals at the hands of eventual finalist Brendan Schaub but fights on The Ultimate Fighter do not count on a fighters professional record.
Madsen is 3-0 and kicked his post-TUF career off on the right track with a win over housemate Justin Wren at The Ultimate Finale in December.
Up until now, Al-Turk has had to deal with powerful strikers which Madsen is not. It will be interesting to see how Al-Turk deals with the relentless wrestling ability of the HIT squad member but one thing is for sure, a loss could mean the end of the road for Al-Turk in the Octagon.
UFC 112 is scheduled for April 10 from Abu Dhabi and will be featured in the United States as a live pay-per-view that will show during the daytime, and then re-broadcast again later that night as well. Madsen vs. Al-Turk will serve as an undercard fight on the untelevised portion of the card.
