Strikeforce light heavyweight, Muhammad "King Mo" Lawal, tests positive for steroid use after his last bout with Lorenz Larkin at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine according to fightersonlymagazine.co.uk.
To be more specific, Lawal was found to have drostanolone. Drostanolone aids in maintaining muscle strength while decreasing its mass, known to be used for weight cutting in body building. As a result, Lawal's KO win over Larkin has been overturned to a no contest. As per the Nevada State Athletic Commission's guidelines, Lawal is facing fine and suspension as well.
"The matter has been referred to the Attorney General's office for issuance of a complaint for disciplinary action," Keith Kizer, NSAC executive, said.
Steroid use has been in the headlines lately as another Strikeforce fighter, Cris "Cyborg" Santos, was also found to have used steroids in her last bout against Hiroko Yamanaka at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal. She has been stripped of her women's featherweight title, fined, and faces a year's suspension.
Lawal's fines and suspension duration remains to be seen.
