With news that Don Frye as withdrawn from his main event match up with Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal, longtime MMA veteran Mark Kerr has agreed to step in and compete on the headlining bout at M-1 Global Presents "Breakthrough."
Frye pulled out of the event for unknown reasons, however, some feel he wasn't happy with the event's location change. "M-1 Breakthrough" will take place on August 28 from the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Missouri instead of the original venue and locale of the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
Lawal is coming off a win over Ryo Kawamura at Sengoku 7 in March pushing his MMA record to a perfect 4-0. All of wins came under the Japanese promotion Sengoku.
Lawal scored TKO finishes in his first three career bouts, with perhaps his biggest win coming in his MMA debut against well-traveled MMA veteran Travis Wiuff at Sengoku 5 last September.
Kerr will be looking to revive his career having lost four straight, including his most recent loss against Jeff Monson at Vengeance Fighting Championship 1 last September. He has gone 3-10 since starting off his career unbeaten in his first 13 bouts, which included a 4-0 stint in the UFC. Kerr has competed professionally for nearly 12 years, fighting for numerous promotions such as Pride, IFL, WVC and Cage Rage. Out of this 15 career wins, 11 have came via stoppage.
M-1 Global Presents "Breakthrough will also feature the recently announced exhibition sparring match between top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko and former DREAM middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi.
