Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera likely for UFC Fight Night 22
by Jacob Camargo on January 09, 2010

Veteran middleweights Nate Quarry and Jorge Rivera are in talks to face each other at UFC Fight Night 22 at the end of March. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.

Quarry (12-3) is 4-1 in his five bouts, however, has not fought since picking up his second straight win by defeating Tim Credeur at UFC Fight Night 19 in September in a bout that earned both men "Fight of the Night" for their exciting middleweight war. His lone loss over that five-fight stretch came against Demian Maia at UFC 91 in November 2008.

Quarry sports a 7-2 record in nine fights with the UFC, with other notable Octagon wins over Pete Sell (x2), Shonie Carter and Jason MacDonald; while suffering his only other UFC loss to Rich Franklin. He has been competing professionally for over eight years, while fighting for other notable promotions such as King of the Cage, Extreme Challenge and Gladiator Challenge. Quarry has finished nine of his 12 career wins, including seven by TKO or KO.

Rivera (17-7) is also streaking, as he is 3-1 in his last four bouts, most recently winning his second fight in a row, against Rob Kimmons at UFC 104 in October. His lone defeat over that span came against Martin Kampmann at UFC 85. Rivera has put together a 6-5 UFC record since debuting with the promotion in September 2003, scoring other notable Octagon wins over David Loiseau, Dennis Hallman and Kendall Grove.

The Cage Rage and World Fighting League veteran has scored stoppages in 13 of his 17 career wins, including 11 coming by TKO or KO. He holds other notable wins during his eight-year career over Travis Lutter, Mark Weir and Solomon Hutcherson.

UFC Fight Night 22 is expected to take place on March 31 in North Carolina, with a exact venue yet to be determined. The event will serve as the lead-in on Spike TV for the debut episode of The Ultimate Fighter 11.

The UFC last visited North Carolina in December 2008 for UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight for the Troops." That event took place at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C.

March is a busy month for the UFC, as they have three events on hand. Other UFC events in March include the rumored UFC Fight Night 21 on March 21, and UFC 111 on March 27 in New Jersey.
