Nick Thompson calls Paul Daley's sucker punch out of character.
by Natalia Baage on May 14, 2010

Another fighter has weighed in on Paul Daley's post-fight sucker punch at UFC 113 - this time, it's a former opponent.

Nick Thompson, who earned a unanimous decision victory over Daley in February 2009 when the two men fought for MFC, spoke with Shambala Sports Radio on FiveKnuckles.com about Daley's demeanor during their contest.

"When we fought, he was pretty frustrated against me as well, and was nothing but respectful both before and afterward," said Thompson. "I kinda hate to see him exiled from the UFC because of this."

Thompson, though, does not agree with Daley's UFC 113 actions, saying that his behavior should not be tolerated. However, he understands Daley's motivation for striking Koscheck after the bell.

"You have so much emotion going into a fight when you're in there," Thompson said. "Everything you put your last three months on of training is for a 15-minute period. Your career all kinda hinges up to one point, and so I understand being emotional.

"I understand someone doing something in the heat of that that doesn't reflect them as a person. I really hate to see somebody get banned for that. I understand why Dana [White] had to ban him, but I also feel badly for Paul that a fighter of that caliber's career loses steam because of a stupid act."

Daley will make his next appearance in Impact Fighting Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, on July 3.

 |  (25) Comments Wandering_Minstrel: So Daley found another organization to fight for. Interesting. I thought Thompson's assessment was pretty spot-on as well. JujitsWho: Screw Daley That is all EDIT: sorry, forgot about the articles :D big daddy: Couldnt agree more that Daley was a complete ****, shamed himself and his gym, and deserves to be hit hard. Was texting people to that effect as it was happening. But a lifetime punishment at 27 years old for 1 impulsive moment, disgusting as it was, seems harsh to me. Im 30, and looking back I have done a lot I'm not proud of, but I have learned, been given second chances and am able to live a life and have a career that me and my family are proud of. If he turns out in the next 2 or 3 years to still be a cock, fine, but I hope if he backs up his apology over time with his actions he could be given another chance. JujitsWho: I know Daley is pretty well known as an arrogant dude, but I don't know about being an out and out disrespectful guy. I had never heard that before. Quite honestly it doesn't matter now anyway. What he did has absolutely NO excuess, none...at all. It was a slap in the face to the promotion and the sport that had given so much. I'm glad he's gone, there is no room for that kinda crap in the sport IMO JujitsWho: DV....come on man. Post without attacking please Wandering_Minstrel: I have to agree with JJW here. Thug, don't encourage him. D_V: He doesn't get called out for asking how old I am an insinuating that his bullshit ass is somehow better inclined to judge a fag like Daley but I get called out for calling him an asshole when he completely misrepresented my post from 2 lines ahead? It is what it is. He called me stupid for saying that Daley should never come back when I explicitly said he could if he did the right thing. he deserves it for that. I don't feel bad at all for saying it. He was being an asshole, and he is an asshole. period. arlovskiviako: BigDaddy started that argument. He definitely misconstrued D_V's original post and proceeded to insult him. JujitsWho: I talked to him too. He was passive aggressive and I understand that. cam6666: Anyone notice that there's a common denominator in most of the arguments on here. ;) cam6666: :D *reels in, throws back*
