Nick Thompson out of Shine Fight against Eduardo Pamplona
by Natalia Baage on May 13, 2010

Nick Thompson is out of his May 15 Shine Fights bout against Eduardo Pamplona due to a knee injury.

On Shambala Sports Radio, Thompson today confirmed that he was recently forced off of the card after injuring his meniscus during training.

"On Saturday during a sparring session, I tore up my knee," he said. "I was hopeful that I'd be able to go because it's nothing career-threatening... but I made the decision that I'm just not going to be healthy enough to fight. I feel very disappointed for this."

With the fight two days away, Thompson's cornerman and training partner Derrick Noble - a UFC vet with wins over Thiago Alves, Shonie Carter and Jake Ellenberger - will step in to replace him.

"I hate to pull out with injury, but I'm glad that it worked out the way it did," Thompson said. "At least someone who's close to me and part of my camp was able to represent my honor.

"He jumped at the chance to take the fight. It worked out as well as [the situation] possibly could."

Thompson's injury will put him out of commission for a month, as he plans to make a return in June. While he does not think there is a tear in his knee, he will get an MRI next week to assess the damage.

"Worlds Collide: Mayorga vs. Thomas" will take place on May 15 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The main event will feature a bout between UFC vet Din Thomas vs. boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga.
