A lightweight match-up between Nik Lentz and Tyson Griffin is expected to take place at UFC 123. The news was first reported by mmaweekly.com. The card for UFC 123 continues to fill out for it's return to Michigan scheduled for November 20. The event is expected to take place at The Palace at Auburn Hills, home of the NBA's Detroit Pistons.
Lentz (19-3-2) will take his unblemished UFC record (3-0) into the octagon against his next opponent. "The Carny" has won consecutive fights against Rob Emerson and most recently Andre Winner at UFC 118. A chorus of boos rained down from the crowd in Lentz's post fight interview, presumably due to the lack of activity during the majority of the fight. Filling out Lentz's resume is a win over Rafaello Oliviera and a draw to Thiago Tavares.
Griffin (14-4, 7-4 UFC) is coming off back-to-back losses to rising star Evan Dunham (decision) and Takanori Gomi (KO punch). The knockout loss marked the first time Griffin has been stopped in his professional career. The 5-time "fight of the night" recipient has defeated notable fighters such as Hermes Franca, Rafael dos Anjos and Clay Guida. Griffin has always found a away to make his fights entertaining, but he will need a victory to stay relevant in the stacked lightweight division.
