Nik Lentz vs. Tyson Griffin expected at UFC 123
by Jeff Jones on September 09, 2010

A lightweight match-up between Nik Lentz and Tyson Griffin is expected to take place at UFC 123. The news was first reported by mmaweekly.com. The card for UFC 123 continues to fill out for it's return to Michigan scheduled for November 20. The event is expected to take place at The Palace at Auburn Hills, home of the NBA's Detroit Pistons.

Lentz (19-3-2) will take his unblemished UFC record (3-0) into the octagon against his next opponent. "The Carny" has won consecutive fights against Rob Emerson and most recently Andre Winner at UFC 118. A chorus of boos rained down from the crowd in Lentz's post fight interview, presumably due to the lack of activity during the majority of the fight. Filling out Lentz's resume is a win over Rafaello Oliviera and a draw to Thiago Tavares.

Griffin (14-4, 7-4 UFC) is coming off back-to-back losses to rising star Evan Dunham (decision) and Takanori Gomi (KO punch). The knockout loss marked the first time Griffin has been stopped in his professional career. The 5-time "fight of the night" recipient has defeated notable fighters such as Hermes Franca, Rafael dos Anjos and Clay Guida. Griffin has always found a away to make his fights entertaining, but he will need a victory to stay relevant in the stacked lightweight division.

 |  (15) Comments Wandering_Minstrel: I think Tyson is going to beat Lentz badly. Griffin is suffering from two back-to-back losses, which I believe is a first for him. Lentz isn't going to be able to impose his grappling on Tyson. His is wrestling-based which is Griffin's strength. And Tyson has the superior hands. Crimsonred: I'm actually not so sure on this. Dunham played with Griffin on the ground, and I'm not so sure than it won't happen again. Lentz was pretty relentless against winner, and can Griffin keep it standing? Mickey knox: I agree that Griffin will win this, but I don't like him much after he got KO'd by Gomi. I picked him over Gomi, Gomi knocked his ass stright into a faceplant, and Griffin had a huge stick up his ass about it after the fight. Gomi was trying to console him and be a good sport and Griffin wouldn't even look at him. No class. smittyssports: I think Griffin will win because after back to back losses he seems to have more determination. nygiant: I think griffin will win...he has nicer shorts The Hitman: WAR GRIFFIN! I think Tyson knows just how badly he needs this win and Lentz doesn't have the tools to stop him from getting it. JujitsWho: Griffin is the superior striker and wrestler......should be and easy win. Hopefully he pummels Lentz to where he gives up MMA and takes up chess or something. I fucking hate Lentz
