Ninja Rua believes Jon Jones will be in trouble once Shogun's punches find his face
by Tim Groves on March 06, 2011

“He’s one of the toughest fighters on MMA currently, he’s tall and has a great conditioning, he’s rising, so it must be a hell of a good fight. But he’ll get hurt when my brother’s punches finds his face." - Murilo "Ninja" Rua

Murilo Rua, the brother of Mauricio Rua, seemed pretty confident in Shogun's ability to retain his belt when he faces Jon Jones. Ninja recently spoke with Brazilian website TATAME about the up-coming light heavyweight title fight.

It's clear that the older Rua would believe that Shogun will hold on to his belt and defeat Jon Jones, but Ninja spoke very highly of the talented, young Jones.

"Jon Jones is a respectful athlete, he’s young, but my brother is the favorite for the experience he has, he’s fought tougher guys than Jones," Rua said. "My brother has proven it, and he’ll win."

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Jon Jones will square off on March 19th at UFC 128.

Are Ninja's comments simply a product of brotherly love? Or will Jones be in trouble once Shogun lands a solid blow? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

 |  (51) Comments The Hitman: Kind of a general statement, but it is correct. JujitsWho: agreed not sold on how well Bones can take a punch since he hasn't had to in any of his fights. I have a feeling those wild strikes will work against him in this fight. That, and I don't see his boney (pardon the pun) legs taking many of Rua's heavy leg kicks before being damaged badly That said, this should still be a very good fight mike5k: Jones' inexperience is a factor in this fight, no doubt, and it will be the biggest factor IF Shogun's healthy. If Shogun isn't healthy then that's the biggest factor. Jones can beat the Shogun that vs. Forrest and Coleman imo. JujitsWho: I like toast as well horizontalcracker: The more I think about this the more I can't see Jones winning. mike5k: In all fairness and honesty, Jones has a significant size and strength advantage. With that said, I still don't think it's nearly enough as long as Shogun's knee is good but they're his best assets. Mickey knox: Shogun's way more well rounded and skilled in every area than anyone Bones has fought. I'm not worried about Shogun not being in shape or fighting injured because he's smart enough to learn from the whole Forrest fiasco. Shogun's on a different level than all the guys Jones was so dominant against, and I don't think Jones will be as sucessfull against him. I see Shogun getting a second or third round KO or TKO. mike5k: Jones is explosive and athletic. thug4less: I also heard that Shogun walks on water and then turns it into wine with his feet sweat. :/ Marker28: Good luck Shogun. 1. Tore acl before fighting Forrest. 2. Knee surgery after fighting Forrest. 3. Knee surgery before fighting Chuck. 4. Knee surgery after beating Machida. I doubt if anyone's brother is going to go against them even if their brother had 3 knee surgeries, a broken arm and hasn't fought in over a year. snuff: Rua will win for me definitely. But it is not a 100% like some of you are saying.
