Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Demetrious Johnson set for UFC 126
by Steven Ritchey on December 10, 2010

Newly signed UFC fighter, Norifumu "Kid" Yamamoto (18-3) is already scheduled for a bantamweight bout against Demetrious Johnson (8-1) at UFC 126 next February. The bout, which will be the UFC debut for both fighters, will take place at bantamweight and will mark the first time "Kid" has fought at that weight class.

"Kid" enters the UFC winning just one of his previous three fights, the lone win being a first round KO victory over Federico Lopez at DREAM 14 in May. In his next fight against Johnson, Yamamoto will look to take advantage of his wrestling and kickboxing background that made him such a force in the featherweight division where he was long considered to be at the top of the heap. 13 of his 18 wins have come by way of knockout and another two by submission. The most well-known of his knockouts was a flying knee KO over Kazuyuki Miyata at K-1 Hero's 5. The knockout happened only four seconds into the fight and it stands as the fastest knockout ever in a major MMA promotion.

Early into the year fans will begin to see a battle for supremacy in the UFC's new bantamweight class. If Yamamoto can prove successful in the division a dream match-up against Urijah Faber (24-4) looms on the horizon. Being in separate organizations previously stopped two of the world's top featherweights from competing against each other but they now have the chance in the UFC to be matched up against one another, but at bantamweight.

Yamamoto cannot take his opponent lightly though. Demetrious Johnson is also a fighter known for finishing fights. Johnson has a strong background in wrestling and has displayed a vicious ground game. Five of his eight wins have come by submission. Johnson comes into the UFC's bantamweight division after three fights in the WEC, losing his debut against Brad Picket (19-5) but he bounced back in his next two fights with victories over Nick Pace (6-1) and Damacio Page (12-5).

UFC 126 takes place February 5th, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
