Official WEC 47 fighter salaries

The official fighter salaries for WEC 47: "Bowles vs Cruz" were released by the Ohio Athletic Commission on Monday. The event took place this past Saturday, March 6, from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio and the event's main card was televised live on Versus.

The event's top earner was co-main event winner Joseph Benavidez, who pocketed $29,000. Benavidez defeated former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres via second round submission. Benavidez also pocketed an extra $10,000, as he was awarded the "Submission of the Night" bonus.

Co-main event loser Torres was the second biggest earner of the night, taking home $26,000 for his aforementioned second-round submission loss to Benavidez.

Other top earners from the event included newly crowned WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz ($18,000), L.C. Davis ($18,000) and Scott Jorgensen ($16,000).

Also of note, preliminary card fighter Anthony Pettis earned an additional $10,000, as he took home "Knockout of the Night" for his first-round KO win over Danny Castillo.

Preliminary card fighters Leonard Garcia and George Roop also took home an extra $10,000, as they were awarded the "Fight of the Night" bonus for their three-round featherweight battle. However, Garcia and Roop just earned their show money, with no win bonus being given out as they battled to a rare draw.

Keep in mind that these listed salaries do not include locker room bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, managers, trainers and other fighter expenses.

 |  (4) Comments Mtx: Whenever the fight salaries for the WEC fighters come out I think the exact same thing: How unfair. After the action packed card we saw this Saturday its hard for me to believe some of the fighters are only earning USD 4k for their extreme sacrifice and will inside the octagon. The Hitman: still dont understand how the winner can sometimes make less than the loser. not that much money in MMA as a fighter until you become very popular Storm: whats crazy is how JoBen and Torres both made more then Cruz and Bowles who were in the title fight lol.
