A potentially explosive heavyweight bout between sluggers Pat Barry and Gilbert Yvel is in the works for the main card of UFC 115, which is tentatively slated to take place on June 12 from the General Motors Place in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
News of the bout was first reported by the Las Vegas Sun, which states that both fighters have verbally agreed to the fight and bout agreements should be signed shortly.
Barry is coming off of a very impressive second round TKO win over Antoni Hardonk at UFC 104 in October. The fight with Hardonk earned Barry two fight night bonuses, with the two awards totaling a staggering $120,000 in extra pay. Barry along with his opponent, Hardonk, each took home $60,000, as they were awarded "Fight of the Night" for their exciting heavyweight battle. Barry pocketed another $60,000, as he was awarded the "Knockout of the Night" bonus.
Prior to the win over Hardonk, Barry suffered his first career loss in his sophomore fight with the UFC against Tim Hague at UFC 98 last May. He sports a 2-1 UFC record, with a win in his Octagon debut over Dan Evensen. The Duke Roufus trained fighter has put together a near perfect 5-1 MMA record since making his pro debut in May 2008, with all five of his wins coming by TKO or KO.
Yvel (36-14-1) is 1-2 in his last three bouts, most recently suffering a first-round TKO loss to Junior dos Santos in his UFC debut earlier this month at UFC 108.
The Dutch fighter has competed for other prominent organizations during his nearly 13-year career such as Rings, M-1, Fight Festival, Cage Rage and Pride. He has finished all of his 36 career wins, including 31 by TKO or KO and holds notable career wins over the likes of Semmy Schilt, Fabiano Scherner and Cheick Kongo.
Though not officially announced, UFC 115 is expected to be headlined by a third fight between former UFC light-heavyweight champions and TUF 11 coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.
