Patrick Cote to return against Alan Belcher at UFC 113 in May
by Jacob Camargo on January 13, 2010

Former UFC middleweight title contender Patrick Cote will make his Octagon return against Alan Belcher at UFC 113 on May 1 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. News of the bout was first reported by Top MMA News.

Belcher and Cote were originally set to square off at UFC 83 in April 2008 during the UFC's first trip to Montreal, however, Cote was forced to withdraw from the event due to an injury. UFC veteran Jason Day replaced Cote and defeated Belcher at the event.

Cote (13-5) hasn't fought since losing to Anderson Silva in a UFC middleweight title fight at UFC 90 in October 2008. The bout ended early in the third round when Cote crumbled to the ground after his knee blew out. Silva was handed the TKO victory after Cote was unable to continue. Cote then underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus and torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee. He was forced to undergo another surgery to repair his MCL in August 2009 and has been rehabbing and recovering since.

Prior to the loss against Silva, Cote had won five straight fights, which included UFC wins over Scott Smith, Kendall Grove, Drew McFedries and Ricardo Almeida. He has put together a sub-par 4-5 UFC record since debuting with the promotion in October 2004.

Cote has been competing professionally for seven years, while fighting for other notable promotions such as TKO, King of the Cage and Maximum Fighting Championships. He has finished nine of his 13 career victories and holds other notable wins over the likes of Bill Mahood (x2), Jason MacDonald and Jason Day.

Belcher (15-6) is 3-1 in his last four bouts, most recently scoring a first round TKO win over Wilson Gouveia at UFC 107 in December in a bout that earned both men "Fight of the Night" honers for their exciting middleweight battle. His lone loss over that span came in his previous bout against Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 100 in July.

Belcher has put together a 6-4 record in 10 fights with the UFC, scoring other notable Octagon wins over Jorge Santiago, Ed Herman and Denis Kang. The World Extreme Fighting and Titan Fighting Championships veteran has scored stoppages in 13 of his 15 career wins and holds other notable wins over his five-year career against Ron Fields and Marcus Sursa.

Though not officially announced, UFC 113 is expected to be headlined by a light-heavyweight title rematch between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. In addition, former UFC light-heavyweight champions and bitter rivals Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans will likely square off on the card.
