Patrick Cote will return to the Octagon in October, battling Tom Lawlor at UFC 121 in hopes of climbing another rung up the middleweight ladder.
The news was confirmed by MMAWeekly.com, who received word from sources close to the event.
They have struggled in their last two fights, both holding 0-2 records (3-2 in last five fights, however). Cote, a known brawler, will look to capitalize on his striking skills, while the wrestler in Lawlor will look to dominate the ground game while mixing in some punches.
Cote (13-6) has battled through some hardship recently. At UFC 113, he returned to the Octagon after a knee injury that forced him out of the fight halfway through his title fight against Anderson Silva in 2008. But this past May, he was not able to conquer Alan Belcher, who won the fight via rear-naked choke.
Lawlor (6-4, 1 NC), a TUF 8 alum, hopes to get back on the winning track, as he was defeated by Joe Doerksen at UFC 113 and by Aaron Simpson at UFC Fight Night 20. As he is 2-2 in the Octagon, he holds wins over Kyle Kingsbury and C.B. Dollaway.
No word yet if this fight will take place on the main card or the prelim card.
UFC 121 will take place on August 23 from Anaheim, California. The headlining bout will be a heavyweight title fight between champion Brock Lesnar and challenger Cain Velasquez.
