Paul Daley shooting for a March return, could fight Nate Marquardt
by Hubert Lau on January 07, 2012

Paul Daley plans for a March return and is open to a fight with former UFC fighter, Nate Marquardt, in the future according to mmamania.com.

Daley had a busy 2011, fighting six times and going 4-2 within a year. His last bout was a unanimous decision victory over Luigi Fioravanti at a Ringside MMA event in late October. Moving into 2012, Daley hasn't let up and plans to return to the cage in March. To keep himself busy, Daley has been honing his skills at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand.

"I have a fight coming up, nothings set in stone but it will be around March time, that's as much as I can say. It should be a big fight...but I'm not even allowed to say which organization I will be fighting for," Daley said.

As for possible opponents, Daley has said that a bout with Marquardt has already been offered to him. Finalizing the matchup is just a matter of time Daley said.

"The fight with Nate Marquardt has been offered to me numerous times and if it is offered at a convenient time I'll take it. I'm not one to back away from fights...It's a very good matchup, he's a former top ten middleweight and a big name to come down to the welterweight division and a big name for BAMMA to have signed," Daley said.

Marquardt is currently set to battle fellow UFC veteran, Yoshiyuki Yoshida, at BAMMA 9 on February 11 to determine the inaugural BAMMA Welterweight Champion. Aside from the Marquardt matchup in Daley's future, how about a return to the UFC?

Daley was quickly rising through the UFC's welterweight ranks not long ago until the notorious fight with Josh Koscheck at UFC 113 which got he ousted from the promotion. Daley has posted a 6-2 record since his departure, losing only to MMA elites in Tyron Woodley and Nick Diaz. Will that be enough for a trip back into the Octagon?

"I have no idea whether the UFC would take me back. I just need to keep winning and improving. Last year there was a poll with Michael Bisping, Dan Hardy and the other UK MMA stand outs and I won UK fighter of the year...a guy like me who was kicked out of the UFC is still a favorite among the fans is something no promotion can ignore," Daley said.

2012 looks to be another big year for Daley who said his goal is to get as many big fights as he can while living up to his potential.

"I want to fulfill my potential and a lot of people look up to me and appreciate what I do and I owe it to them to be the best that I can possibly be and that's what I want to do in 2012," Daley said.
