A welterweight bout between rising contenders Paul Daley and former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit has been verbally agreed upon for UFC 108 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, NV. News of the bout was first reported by Fighters Only Magazine.
Daley (22-8-2) is on a three-fight winning streak and is coming off of a very impressive UFC debut, as he scored a stunning first-round TKO win over Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 last month. He was signed by the UFC following the demise of Affliction, where he was slated to fight Jay Hieron at the ill-fated promotion's third event, which was canceled.
Daley has fought all over the UK, as well as recently fighting in North America, where he has fought for EliteXC and MFC. However, he has fought the majority of his career with the Cage Rage promotion. "Semtex" has finished 17 of his 22 career wins by TKO or KO. He holds notable wins in his six-year career over the likes of Xavier Foupa-Pokam, Jess Liaudin, Duane Ludwig and John Alessio.
Condit (24-5) picked up his first UFC win in his last bout as he defeated Jake Ellenberger via split decision at Ultimate Fight Night 19 on Sept. 16 in a bout that saw Condit get all he could handle from his younger opponent in the first two rounds. His win over Ellenberger was his ninth win in his last 10 bouts, with his lone blemish during the streak coming in his UFC debut against Martin Kampmann at Ultimate Fight Night 18 in April.
Before his move to the UFC, Condit went a perfect 5-0 in the other ZUFFA-owned promotion, WEC, scoring wins over the likes of Brock Larson, John Alessio, Carlo Prater and Hiromitsu Miura. The Pancrese and Rumble on the Rock veteran has scored stoppage victories in all but one of his 24 career wins. The six-year veteran of the sport holds other notable career wins over Frank Trigg, Renato Verissimo and Brandon Melendez.
Though not officially announced, UFC 108 is expected to be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort.
Other bouts rumored for the event include a light-heavyweight tilt between former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and American Top Team fighter Thiago Silva, as well as a heavyweight bout between contenders Junior dos Santos and Gabriel Gonzaga.
