British brawler Paul Kelly looks set to meet Jacob Volkmann at UFC 116 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both men picked up much needed victories in their last bouts inside the Octagon. Kelly choked out Matt Veach at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi whilst Volkmann picked up a split decision win over Ronnys Torres at UFC Fight Night 21.
Kelly (11-2) got the crucial win over Veach after losing in spectacular style to Denis Siver at UFC 105, it was his first defeat after dropping to lightweight. Before that, the Team Kaobon fighter had lost just once in the Octagon, to Marcus Davis at UFC 89, picking notable victories over Paul Taylor, Troy Mandaloniz and Roli Delgado.
Volkmann may have rescued his UFC career with his win at UFC Fight Night 21. "Christmas" entered the UFC as an unbeaten welterweight prospect, but found himself outclassed by Paulo Thiago at UFC 106 and then choked out by Martin Kampmann at UFC 108.
A drop to lightweight followed capped by the recent win over Torres.
Now both men look set to meet in a bout neither can afford to lose as they attempt to work their way up the rankings at 155 lbs.
UFC 116 is set to be headlined by the long awaited heavyweight championship bout between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin. Also on the card Wanderlei Silva meets Yoshihiro Akiyama and the rematch between Stephan Bonnar and Krzysztof Soszynski.
