Paulo Filho may face Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard in a non-title fight
by Giada Esposito on March 17, 2010

Former WEC middleweight champ Paulo Filho looks to return to action on May 20 at Bellator 19 in a bout with Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard.

Though an earlier report by Tatame.com stated that Filho would be fighting in May for the title, this now appears not to be the case. A source close to the fighters has told MMAJunkie.com that while Filho is on a "short list" of potential opponents for Lombard, even if he is selected, it will be a non-title fight.

Lombard won Bellator's season one middleweight championship last year to claim the organization's inaugural 185-pound title. While all of the season one champs are expected to compete in season two fights, the bouts will all be non-title matches, with the belts not on the line until season three begins later this year.

Filho, who has an impressive career record of 19-1, won the WEC middleweight championship at WEC 29, and suffered his only loss in a non-title fight against Chael Sonnen at WEC 36. Lombard is 25-2-1 in his career, and has not lost in his past 18 fights.
