Former WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho has been officially added to the stacked Bitetti Combat event on September 12. The highly regarded fighter will take on TUF 1 cast member Alex Schoenauer.

First though, Filho will compete on the DREAM 10 fight card against dangerous Dutch striker Melvin Manhoef.

Filho suffered the first loss of his career in his last fight against Chael Sonnen at WEC 36 in a bout which questioned Filho's personal sanity. The normally poised fighter acted preoccupied and disinterested for much of the fight and seemed to be talking to someone who wasn't there. Some of Filho's strange behavior was later attributed to depression and chemical-dependency issues, for which he has sought treatment and is said to be fully recovered.

Prior to the loss, Filho was considered by many to be one of the top middleweights in the world. He opened up his career with 16 straight wins, including notable victories over Amar Suloev, Murilo Rua, Kazuo Misaki and Joe Doerksen.

Schoenauer hasn't fought since defeating Brendan Barrett at a IFL event last April. Overall, he went a even 5-5 in 10 fights with the now-defunct IFL promotion, with notable wins over Travis Wiuff and Allan Goes. During his 8-year MMA career, Schoenauner has put together a 14-9 record, with 4 wins by TKO and 7 by submission.

Bitetti Combat takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will be a headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Ricardo Arona and UFC veteran Marvin Eastman.

Also featured on the talent-infused card will be top-ten ranked light-heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira taking on Alex Stiebling. Pedro Rizzo will also battle it out Jeff Monson in a heavyweight rematch.
