A welterweight bout between Paulo Thiago and Jacob Volkmann has been moved from the unaired preliminary portion of UFC 106 to take the vacated spot on the televised main card portion of the card.
A spot on the main card was vacated after Karo Parisyan vs. Dustin Hazelett was scrapped from the event after Parisyan unexpectedly withdrew from the fight due to yet undisclosed reasons.
The decision to move Thiago vs. Volkmann to the UFC 106 pay-per-view main card means that the Spike TV one-hour broadcast of the preliminary card bouts featuring Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders and Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt remains unchanged.
Thiago (11-1) most recently suffered his first career loss at the hands Jon Fitch at UFC 100 in July. Prior to the loss, he had won the first 11 bouts of his career, including a win in his UFC debut against Josh Koscheck via first-round TKO. The Jungle Fight veteran has finished nine of his 11 career wins, including seven coming by submission.
Volkmann, who is a is a three-time All-American wrestler from the University of Minnesota, is coming off of a first-round submission win over TUF 9 alum Kevin Knabjian at Bellator 6 in May. He has put together a 9-0 MMA record during his two-year career, with six of his wins coming by submission.
Volkmann currently hones his skills at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy, which is home to such notable fighters as Brock Larson, Sean Sherk, Nik Lentz, Nick Thompson and current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
UFC 106 takes place on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV, and will be headlined by a rematch between former UFC light-heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin.
