The UFC recently announced the addition of a light-heavyweight bout between newly-signed Phil Davis and former WEC light-heavyweight champion Brian Stann to the preliminary portion of its UFC 109 event on Feb. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.
Davis has not fought since defeating David Baggett via first-round submission at a Ultimate Cage Fighting Challenge event in June. Davis has put together a 4-0 professional MMA record, with his last three wins all coming by stoppage. During his career, he has competed for such notable promotions such as Palace Fighting Championships and Ultimate Warrior Challenge. His lone decision win came in his pro MMA debut in October 2008 when he defeated Brett Chism.
Stann (8-2) is currently on a two-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming over Rodney Wallace at TUF 10 Finale on Dec. 5. Prior to the wins, he lost two straight fights, including a loss in his UFC debut against Krzysztof Soszynski. Prior to joining the UFC, Stann had put together a 5-1 record with the WEC, scoring notable wins in the organization against Doug Marshall and Steve Cantwell (in their very first match up), while suffering his only WEC loss against Cantwell in their second fight. He has finished all of his eight career wins, including six by TKO or KO.
Headlining UFC 109 is a light-heavyweight bout between former champions Mark Coleman and Randy Couture.
