A lightweight bout between TUF 8 runner-up Phillipe Nover and Rob Emerson is set to take place at the as-of-yet announced UFC 109 event in February. Bout agreements have been signed, according to a report from MMAWeekly.com.
The UFC's traditional Super Bowl event, UFC 109, is expected to take place on Feb. 6, 2010, in Las Vegas, NV.
This will be Nover's first fight since suffering a health scare at last month's UFC Fight Night 19. He suffered a seizure backstage just hours before the start of the event, which forced the cancellation of his preliminary card bout against Sam Stout. Nover was taken to a local hospital, where tests revealed that he suffered a syncopal episode and hyperglycemia.
Nover (5-2-1) is off to a 0-2 start to his UFC career, and will likely be fighting to stay in the promotion. His first loss came in his Octagon debut against Efrain Escudero in the lightweight finale of the Ultimate Fighter season 8 in Dec. 2008, and he was most recently defeated by Kyle Bradley at UFC 98 in May.
Prior to joining the UFC, Nover had won four straight bouts, all coming with the Ring of Combat promotion. He has finished all but one of his five career wins, including three coming by submission.
Emerson (9-8) will also be fighting to keep his job with the UFC as he has lost back-to-back fights inside the Octagon as well. TUF 5 cast member most recently was defeated by Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision at UFC 103 on Sept. 19. Emerson has put together a 2-2 (1 NC) record in five fights with the UFC, with Octagon wins over Keita Nakamura and Manny Gamburyan.
During his seven-year career, Emerson has fought all over the world for such promotions as King of the Cage, Shooto, DEEP, Total Combat and Pancrese. He has scored stoppage wins in five of his nine career victories and holds notable career wins over the likes of Takafumi Ito, Chris Brennan and Joe Camacho.
