UFC 103: "Franklin vs. Belfort" is officially in the books and it turned out be a exciting night of fights for the promotion's first-ever trip to Dallas. Here are some interesting tidbits that came out of the post-fight press conference for the event:
- UFC 103 drew an estimated 17,428 spectators to the American Airlines Center in Dallas for a $2.4 million gate, according to UFC President Dana White. Official figures from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation's Combative Sports should be available in the coming weeks.
- The UFC handed out $260,000 in bonus money and $130,000 of it went to Rick Story as he earned two bonus awards. Main event fighter Vitor Belfort and Brian Foster each earned the other $65,000 "Fight Night" bonuses for their outstanding performance at UFC 103.
Story and Foster earned "Fight of the Night" honors" for their two-round lightweight war, which energized the crowd with a great display of offense from both fighters. Story earned another $65,000 for "Submission of the Night" for his impressive second round submission (arm-triangle choke) win over Foster. Belfort took home "Knockout of the Night" for his first round knockout win over former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin in the main event.
- UFC President Dana White said he thinks Belfort is ready for a shot against UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva. White also thinks that Dan Henderson and Nate Marquardt should battle each other for a title shot. He also said that he expects to work out a contract with Dan Henderson within the next week.
- White says he has spoke with Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson and that they are working things out. He learned that Rampage might not be available to fight until March 2010.
- White says that a welterweight match up between Mike Swick and Paul Daley could be in the works for a fight in the near future.
- The UFC President also said that Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic refused to go to the hospital following his loss to Junior Dos Santos, but he made him go because he wanted to make sure everything was alright with the Croatian before he went on a 20-hour flight.
- White says that he expects to have a UFC event in Boston next year, and that there will not be a event in Columbus, Ohio in March 2010, which breaks a yearly tradition.
