UFC 115: "Liddell vs. Franklin" is officially in the books and it turned out to be an action-packed and exciting night of fights for the promotion's first-ever event in Vancouver. Here are some interesting tidbits that came out of the post-fight press conference for the event:
-UFC 115 drew an estimated 17,000 spectators to the General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for an approximate gate of $4.2 million, according to UFC President Dana White.
UFC 115 was the promotion's fourth event held in Canada, with the previous three cards (UFC 83, UFC 97 and UFC 113) taking place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
-The UFC dished out a total of $340,000 in bonus money to four of the 22 fighters who competed in last night's UFC 115 event. Main event winner Rich Franklin, co-main event winner Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic as well as fellow main card fighters Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald each earned a staggering $85,000 "Fight Night" bonuses for their outstanding performances at the event.
Condit and MacDonald earned "Fight of the Night" honors for their exciting welterweight bout, which saw Condit earn a come-from-behind third round TKO win over MacDonald. Filipovic took home "Submission of the Night" for his dramatic third round rear-naked-choke submission win over Pat Barry.
Rich Franklin nabbed "Knockout of the Night" for his stunning first round knockout win over MMA legend Chuck Liddell.
-UFC President Dana White said he feels his close friend Chuck Liddell is done fighting and he hopes Liddell feels the same way too. Liddell was not in attendance at the post-fight press conference, as he went to the hospital.
-White confirmed that Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic's contract with the UFC is up. However, White said that Filipovic will be back with the UFC and the Croatian will finish his career with the promotion. "Cro Cop" also said he wants to stay with the UFC.
-White also mentioned that middleweight David Loiseau will likely be cut from the UFC following his loss at last night's event but could work his way back to the promotion.
-White stated that the controversial stoppage in the Condit vs. MacDonald fight was the right call and it was justified. However, White feels the early stoppage in the Wiman vs. Danzig preliminary card bout was an unfortunate bad call and the two fighters will likely have an immediate rematch.
-Pat Barry's trainer Duke Roufus revealed that Barry broke his hand in the first round of his fight against Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in the night's co-main event.
