Post-WEC 46 news and notes

WEC 46: "Varner vs. Henderson" is officially in the books and what an exciting night of fights it was. The event featured Benson Henderson being crowned the undisputed WEC lightweight champion. Here are some interesting tidbits that came out of the post-fight press conference for the event:

-WEC 46 drew an estimated 10,027 spectators to the ARCO Arena in Sacrmento, Calif. for a $550,000 gate, according to WEC general manager Reed Harris. Official figures from the California State Athletic Commission will be released in the coming weeks.

-The WEC dished out a total of $30,000 in bonus money to three out of the 20 fighters who competed on the card.

Co-main event fighter Urijah Faber as well as preliminary card fighters Will Campuzano and Coty Wheeler each earned $10,000 "Fight Night" bonuses for their outstanding performances at WEC 46.

Competing in the co-main event, Faber earned "Submission of the Night" honors his third-round rear naked choke submission win over Raphael Assuncao. Campuzano and Wheeler earned "Fight of the Night" honors for their crowd pleasing, three round, bantamweight battle, which saw Campuzano walk away with a unanimous decision win.

No fighters picked up extra cash for a "Knockout of the Night" bonus, as there were no TKO or KO stoppages on the 10-fight card.

-WEC general manager Reed Harris announced that Urijah Faber will get the first title shot against current WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Reed expressed his desire for the the fight to be on WEC's first PPV card.
