"I turned down the fight cause of short notice,I would have 2 lose 45 lbs n 4 weeks,u would have 2 be a fighter 2 understand, life goes on." -Quinton "Rampage" Jackson via Twitter
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson takes his case for turning down a proposed title shot to the social media.
Fresh of a controversial decision win over fellow former champion Lyoto Machida, Jackson was set to take on surging young contender Thiago Silva with the winner promised a shot at the light heavyweight title against the winner of a fight between current champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and former champion Rashad Evans.
That fight was called of on Saturday however, when Evans revealed that he'd suffered a serious knee injury in training and would be unable to compete. Jackson was given first crack to replace Evans against Rua, but elected to take a full 8-week camp and face Silva at UFC 130, instead of competing against Rua with an abbreviated 6-week camp.
Rua will instead face rising young phenom Jon Jones at UFC 128 in March, after Jones dominated Ryan Bader for a second round submission win this past Saturday at UFC 126.
