After more than a decade of thrilling fight fans and putting on some of the most famous fights in UFC history, age-defying MMA legend Randy "The Natural" Couture may at last be getting ready to hang up his gloves.
Couture, who turned 47 in June, returned from retirement in 2008 only to lose the UFC heavyweight title to interim champ Brock Lesnar. Following that defeat Couture faced off against former PRIDE heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in another hard-fought loss, and afterwards made the decision to drop down in weight to continue competing as a light-heavyweight.
Although "The Natural" has reeled off three straight wins since then, most recently returning to heavyweight to defeat former boxing champ James Toney at UFC 118, he has not fought again against another top division contender. And with another title run in the UFC seeming unlikely, Couture, who recently starred in the movie The Expendables, seems more interested in returning to the screen than the Octagon.
"I'm not sure what I am gonna do," Couture told FightersOnlyMagazine. "I am definitely gonna make some more movies there is no question about that, we start shooting the sequel for The Expendables in March, this next Spring, so I am excited about that."
Although there is no question Couture still enjoys tremendous support from MMA fans, it's clear that he seems content now to look back on his fight career, rather than looking forward.
"I don't know what is gonna happen on the fight front," said Couture. "I have had my wars, done my thing. I've been having fun, I can still fight, but I am not sure I want to make another run at the title or anything like that. I enjoy the sport, I enjoy fighting, but its probably time to move on...I hope to diversify (my roles), I would like to try a little bit of everything, we'll see. It's a fickle business, so you never know what is going to happen."
