Randy Couture leaning toward move back to light heavyweight

"I'm especially leaning towards dropping down. I'm pushing in weight. It would be easy for me to make 205 and there's more interesting fights there right now. I kind of got moved off that track losing the decision Saturday anyways. I don't know how realistic it is to think I'm going to be the guy in line to fight Lesnar after dropping the decision Saturday night."

- MMA Legend Randy Couture tells Sherdog.com that he's seriously considering a move to light heavyweight where he's spent much of his hall-of-fame MMA career, earning the UFC's light heavyweight title at UFC 43 against Chuck Liddell.

Couture (16-10) dropped a hard fought decision to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 102, and likely any shot at a rematch with Brock Lesnar in the process. With the daunting prospect of having to climb his way back up the heavyweight ladder, Couture looks apt instead to jump straight into the light heavyweight title mix by dropping back down to 205lbs.

As the 46-year-old former champion alluded to, there are tons of interesting match-ups for him at light heavyweight. Rematches with UFC cash cow's Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz would certainly draw big pay-per-view numbers. Current UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, who moonlights as a light heavyweight, would be interesting puzzles for Couture, who's always seemed to have a penchant for solving difficult fighters. Match ups against Rashad Evans, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Jon Jones, and Forrest Griffin and Mark Coleman would all be interesting as well and could happen as soon as the end of this year or early in 2010 according to Couture.
