Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera confirmed for UFC 105
by Natalia Baage on September 13, 2009

The main event for UFC 105 has been set.  Randy Couture will face Brandon Vera on Nov. 14 in Manchester, England.  The fight was confirmed by UFC sources, as reported The Sun.

The Couture vs. Vera bout replaces the prior fight that had been slotted for UFC 105: B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez.  The Penn vs. Sanchez fight was moved to UFC 107 in order to fill the void on the card that was left by the postponement of  the clash between Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson and Rashad Evans.

Evans was offered to fight Couture, but turned it down.  The offer was then given to Vera, who accepted.

It had been rumored that Dan Henderson would fight Nate Marquardt to decide the definitive #1 contender for Anderson Silva's middleweight belt.  But after difficulties in securing Henderson's new fight contract with the UFC, the promotion decided to go in a different direction.

Couture, however, recently signed a new six-fight contract with the UFC.  While his last fight was in the heavyweight division against Antonio Minotauro Nogueira at UFC 102, Couture has expressed his desire to move back down to the light-heavyweight division.  His fight against Vera will take place in the 205-pound division.

The fights will be broadcast live on Spike TV on Nov. 14.
