It looks like Mike Swick will have to wait just a little bit longer for his long sought after title shot. After going 9-1 in 10 UFC contests, Swick was just one fight away from earning a showdown with welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, that is, until he suffered a head injury while training.
Swick posted the following from his Twitter account:
Mike Swick: I am out of UFC 103. It sucks and I am sorry guys... 4 minutes ago from Tweed
Reports out of the American Kickboxing Academy, where Swick trains with fellow welterweight contenders Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck, have Koscheck sweeping Swick during sparring and Swick landing on his head. Initial reports say that the injury is not too serious, but will certainly keep Swick out of his match up against Kampmann which was slated for the 19th of this month.
For a replacement, the UFC has apparently called upon newly signed welterweight Paul "Semtex" Daley. Daley (21-8-2), considered one of the divisions best strikers, enters the UFC after winning two straight, both via first-round knockouts. He was originally slated to face fellow UFC first-timer Brian Foster at the event.
"I got the call and I accepted," Daley told The Sun. "I came to the UFC to fight the best, and that's what I am going to do. Kampmann is on a roll with the UFC, but I will roll over him. Semtex is going to explode onto the UFC's welterweight scene at UFC 103."
