There always comes a time when a fighter finally decides to hang up the gloves to call it a career. For Wanderlei Silva, that time has not arrived yet as "The Axe Murderer" looks to continue his career after his UFC 139 bout with Cung Le according to mmaweekly.com.
"I never give up. I'm fighting for 20 years in my life right now, and I'm healthy, I make all tests with the doctors. I'm too good and great condition and I'm going to prove that on Saturday," Silva said.
Silva is 2-4 since arriving to the UFC, a shadow of the dominating fighter who was the Pride middleweight champion for nearly five years. However during this run, Silva has fought the best the UFC has to offer in Leben, Quinton Jackson, Chuck Liddell, Rich Franklin, Keith Jardine and Michael Bisping. Silva holds victories over the latter two, Jardine and Bisping.
Talks of retirement for Silva arose shortly after his last bout at UFC 132 which resulted in a 27 second knockout loss to Chris Leben. UFC president, Dana White, has also stated that he would need to "Chuck Liddell" Silva into retirement.
"I have a lot of fans in the world that want to watch my fight. What happened in the last fight can happen with anybody. The first three minutes were strong and one punch finished the fight. You can't tell Cain Velasquez he's going to retire right now because he lost in one minute. This can happen with everybody," Silva said.
Silva firmly declares that win, lose or draw, he will return to the Octagon after UFC 139. Silva's opponent, Le, will be making his MMA return after a year hiatus. He is Strikeforce's former middleweight champion.
"One fight can't tell about a fighter. I know I'm going to fight again, again and again," Silva said.
