The UFC has added yet another member out of New Jersey's AMA Fight Club to its roster, as the promotion has signed light-heavyweight prospect Ricardo Romero to a four-fight contract.
Romero's new coach Mike Constantino announced the news in a recent press release.
"This is a dream come true!" said Romero in the release.
Reports surfaced that Romero was set to make his Octagon debut against the newly licensed Steve Cantwell at UFC 116 on July 3, however, the bout has since fell through, according to MMAjunkie.com.
It is not yet known if Romero will still fight on the UFC 116 card.
Romero is currently on a five-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming over Silmar Rodrigo at Ring of Combat 27 in November. Prior to the wins, he suffered his only career loss against Glen Sandull in September 2008.
Romero has fought all of his 11 professional career bouts with the New Jersey-based Ring of Combat, capturing the promotion's light-heavyweight and heavyweight titles. He has put together a nearly perfect 10-1 MMA record since making his pro debut in September 2007, with stoppages coming in all but one of his 10 wins including five by submission and the other four by TKO.
Romero, who is a former wrestler at Rutgers University and purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, holds notable career wins over John Doyle, Costantinos Phillippou, Karen Grigoryan and current UFC heavyweight James McSweeney.
Helping prepare Romero for his UFC debut will be his AMA Fight Club teammates and UFC fighters Jim Miller, Dan Miller, and Charlie Brenneman.
