Each day brings more fight bookings for the ever-growing WEC 43 fight card. The latest addition is a lightweight bout between former WEC lightweight number one contender Richard Crunkilton and rising prospect Dave Jansen. News of the bout comes courtesy of NWI.com and was subsequently confirmed by sources close to Jansen.
Rich Crunkilton (16-2) had been out of the sport for 18 months battling injuries. This is his third attempt at a comeback during that span. He was first slated to face Bart Palaszewski at WEC 39 in March, but had to withdraw with a knee injury. He was then slated to face Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at WEC 41 before being forced off that card with another injury.
Crunkilton scored a unanimous decision win over Sergio Gomez in his last fight at WEC 33 in March '08. He now sports an 8-1 record in nine fights with the WEC, with his only loss coming against Rob McCullough in a lightweight title bout at WEC 30. The American Kickboxing Academy fighter holds a total of 13 wins via stoppage and has a notable win over Strikeforce veteran Bao Quach.
WEC newcomer Dave Jansen defeated Amirkhan Mazihov at M-1 Challenge 17: Korea earlier this month in his last outing. Since turning pro in January 2007, he has put together a stellar 12-0 professional MMA record, with 7 wins by submission while competing mostly for SportFight and the M-1 challenge events. Jansen is a longtime wrestler who competed collegiately for two years at the University of Oregon and now hones his MMA skills at the renowed Team Quest.
WEC 43 takes place on September 2 from the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio and the evenings main card action can be seen live on Versus. The main event features a WEC interim lightweight title fight between Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson.
