Rick Story wants to fight Dong Hyun Kim
by Hubert Lau on August 09, 2011

UFC welterweight, Rick Story, calls for a fight with Dong Hyun Kim according to bloodyelbow.com.

"I think it will solidify that the last fight was kind of a fluke, and it would rebuild some of that lost momentum....I'd like to do it at UFC 139 on Nov. 19," Story said.

Story was the victim of an upset when he loss to late replacement Charlie Brenneman at UFC on Versus 4. Story was originally working his way towards title contention, riding a six fight win streak and methodically defeating the who's who of the welterweight division. When Nate Marquardt pulled out of the bout due to the now infamous TRT controversy that also got him ousted of the UFC, Brenneman stepped up to face Story and won via unanimous decision.

Now looking to climb his way back to the top of the heap, Story sets his sights on Kim. Kim was also establishing himself within the UFC's welterweights with his undefeated record of 14-0-1, until he faced Carlos Condit at UFC 132. Kim was on the receiving end of a flying knee that knocked him out cold within the opening round.

It is unclear if this match up would materialize. Kim is currently recovering from a broken orbital bone suffered from the bout with Condit and could be sidelined until December at the latest. Styles-wise it should make for an interesting fight. Both men are well versed in the ground game; Story has his base in collegiate wrestling while Kim is a black belt judo practitioner.

 |  (21) Comments Jambi: what a douche for saying it was a fluke. Take your loss like a man. I also read somewhere else that he wants to fight DHK because he knows the Korean would stand and bang with him. That means he's also stupid. Giada Esposito: I have to say though, Story vs. Kim does make a lot of sense as a matchup. I like this fight. illegalpoke: I've been saying Rory vs. Story for YEARS! Thing is. Matches like that are kinda rare. Two up and comers against one another. Had Story got pass the Spaniard, maybe. Really when's the last fight like that we've seen? Bones/Bader? I'm talking that caliber of up and come. The Hitman: Never really like Story. To call getting beat a fluke is childish. illegalpoke: Tru dat tru dat. Wandering_Minstrel: I'd actually take DHK in this fight. GO HARD: i dont know why... but i like Story!!! ummm i think he would beat brenneman is he had time to prepare for him, so i agree his loss was a fluke. War Story!!! Hizoka: don't care what kinda MMA math you use Pisping is mid level fighter now and forever, he will never see a title shot much less a title.... Not to mention the ONLY reason he get ANY press at all is because hes from the UK and the UFC wanted a UK posterboy... on that note i still say the Pisping Hammil fight was fixed because if Hammil got the win like he deserved it would of ruined all the credibility they were putting behind Pisping at the time... having a guy medically eliminated from TUF beating the "winner" would of not only ruined the UFCs new UK poster boy it would of shown the TUF winner not deserving because he won because the best fighter was medically taken out not beaten. Also note at the time the UFC governed themselvs in the UK as no commision was there, 2/3 judges were brought over by Dana (and those 2 were ones that gave the fight to Pisping)
