Renan Barao has wasted no time making a big splash in the UFC's bantamweight division, reeling off three straight wins including a dominant decision over former title contender Scott Jorgensen.
It's familiar territory for the 25-year-old Brazilian, who has run up an impressive record of 28 straight fights without a loss since dropping a split decision in his first professional contest.
For Barao, simply being good isn't enough- he wants the chance to prove he's the best, and he's confident he's ready to take that next step.
"We are hoping to define the weight class," Barao's coach Jair Lourenco told TATAME, adding that he believes Barao needs just one more win before competing for the belt against the winner of the upcoming title match between champ Dominick Cruz and challenger Urijah Faber.
Lourenco feels Barao should next face either Ivan Menjivar or the winner of a scheduled contest between Miguel Torres and Michael MacDonald in a title eliminator, but both possibilities are still unconfirmed.
