Rob Emerson, Brad Blackburn and Fabricio Camoes cut by the UFC
by Jacob Camargo on April 16, 2010

The UFC continues its Spring 2010 roster cuts, as welterweight Brad Blackburn and lightweights Fabricio Camoes and Rob Emerson are the latest to be released from their contracts following recent losses.

There has been a long list of fighter cuts by the UFC since March, which includes Paul Buentello, Shannon Gugerty, Eliot Marshall, Chase Gormley, Eric Schafer, Rory Markham, Ronnys Torres, Caol Uno, Lucio Linhares and Jason High.

Blackburn opened his UFC career in impressive fashion scoring three straight wins inside the Octagon over James Giboo at UFC Fight Night 14, Ryo Chonan at UFC 92 and Edgar Garcia at TUF 9 finale. He exits the UFC with two straight losses against Amir Sadollah at UFC Fight Night 20, and then to Damarques Johnson at UFC 112 earlier this month.

Prior to joining the UFC, Blackburn fought for other notable promotions such as Ring of Fire, SportFight, Rumble in the Ring and the IFL, where he put together a respectable 4-2 (1 NC) record from April 2006 to April 2008. He has put together a 15-11-1 MMA record over his eight-year career, finishing 11 of his 15 wins. He holds notable career wins over the likes of Pat Healy (x2), Gustavo Machado, Chris Wilson, Delson Heleno and a 40-second TKO win over highly regarded Jay Hieron.

Camoes' UFC career was short lived, as he went winless at 0-1-1 in two bouts with the promotion, most recently suffering a loss to Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 111 last month. He previously fought to a majority draw against Caol Uno in his UFC debut at UFC 106 in November.

Camoes previously won seven straight to earn a contract with the UFC, which included a 2-0 mark in EliteXC's "ShoXC" series; as well as a first-round submission win over Torrance Taylor at Strikeforce Challengers 1 in May 2009. He has competed professionally for over nine-years, putting together a 10-5-1 MMA record along the way, with eight of those wins coming by stoppage including six by submission.

Emerson began his career as a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter 5. He opened his UFC career in unusual fashion when his Octagon debut fight against Gray Maynard at TUF 5 finale was ruled a no contest after Maynard knocked himself out just as Emerson tapped out due to rib injury. He followed that fight with back-to-back wins over Keita Nakamura at UFC 81 and Manny Gamburyan at UFC 87.

Emerson went 1-3 in his last four UFC fights, suffering losses to Kurt Pellegrino, Rafael dos Anjos and most recently Nik Lentz at UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31. He exits the UFC with an even 3-3 (1 NC) record, with his only other UFC win coming in his previous Octagon fight against Phillipe Nover at UFC 109 in February.

Emerson has fought for an array of other notable organizations throughout his seven-year career, such as King of the Cage, Total Combat, Deep, Shooto and Pancrese. He sports an even 9-9 professional MMA record.
