With UFC 101 less this three weeks away, TUF 5 alum Rob Emerson has been forced to withdraw from his fight with George Sotiropoulos due to a cut suffered in training. The Ultimate Fighter season 8 cast member George Roop will replace Emerson, according to AroundTheOctagon.com.
Roop evened his UFC record to 1-1 with a win in his last fight over fellow TUF 8 alum David Kaplan at UFC 98 in May. He previously lost to Shane Nelson in his UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 8 finale last December. The longtime Rage in the Cage veteran sports an overall MMA record of 9-4, with 5 wins by stoppage. He holds a notable win over Strikeforce veteran Tito Jones.
TUF 6 cast member, Sotiropoulos, hasn't competed in more that a year. He's riding a three-fight win streak, which includes wins in his first two UFC contests over fellow TUF 6 alumni Billy Miles and Roman Mitichyan. Prior to the three-fight win streak, he suffered a disqualification loss against lightweight star Shinya Aoki at a Shooto event in October of 2006. Sotiropoulos (9-2) has 5 wins coming via submission and 1 via TKO.
UFC 101 is set for Aug. 8 in Philadephia and will be headlined by a lightweight title bout between current champ BJ Penn and top contender Kenny Florian. In the co-main event, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will once again make the trek up to the UFC's light-heavyweight division, this time to face TUF 1 light-heavyweight winner and former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Forrest Griffin.
