Rob Emerson, who was recently forced off of his UFC 101 fight with George Sotiropoulos, will fill in for the injured Matt Wiman against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 103.
Wiman withdrew from the UFC 103 event, according to MMAJunkie, due to a knee injury he suffered while training for the fight. Emerson withdrew from his UFC 101 bout due to a cut he suffered in training, however, stitches from the cut will apparently be healed in time for him to compete a month later at UFC 103.
Emerson (9-7) hasn't fought since dropping a loss to Kurt Pellegrino at UFN 17 in February. Prior to the loss, he was unbeaten in seven bouts, which included UFC wins over Keita Nakamura and Manny Gamburyan. Emerson holds notable career wins over UFC veteran Chris Brennan and KOTC veteran Joe Camacho.
Dos Anjos (11-4) has lost his first two UFC bouts in fights against Jeremy Stephens and most recently Tyson Griffin at UFN 18 in April in a bout which earned both men "Fight of the Night" honors. Prior to the entering the UFC, Dos Anjos had won nine straight with 6 wins coming via submission.
UFC 103 takes place on September 19 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and will be headlined by a rematch between Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin.
