Middleweights Rob Kimmons and Steve Steinbeiss will be aiming to get back on the winning track and also keep their jobs with the UFC, as they are expected to meet on the preliminary portion of the UFC on Versus 2 card in August. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
Kimmons (22-5) was expected drop down to welterweight and face Mike Pierce at UFC on Versus 1, however, he was forced off the card with a leg injury.
In his last fight, Kimmons suffered a third round TKO loss against Jorge Rivera at UFC 104: "Machida vs. Shogun" in October. He has put together an even 2-2 record during his time with the UFC, recording wins over Rob Yundt and Joe Vedepo, while suffering his other loss to Dan Miller.
Steinbeiss (4-3) hasn't fought since dropping his UFC debut against Ryan Jensen at UFC Fight Night 19 in September. He was originally slated to face Nick Catone at UFC Fight Night 20 but an undisclosed injury forced him out of the bout.
The loss against Jensen was his second straight, with a previous loss coming in the other Zuffa owned promotion, the WEC, against Carmelo Marrero in November 2008. The Arizona Combat Sports product has finished all of his four of his career wins including 3 by TKO or KO.
Though not officially announced, UFC on Versus 2 is expected to take place on August 1 at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it will be the promotion's first ever event in the state.
The event is expected to feature a light-heavyweight bout between fast rising phenom Jon Jones and Vladimir Matyushenko. Other notable bouts rumored for the event include a middleweight bout between Mark Munoz and Yushin Okami, a lightweight scrap between Takanori Gomi and Joe Stevenson, and a welterweight contest between rising prospects Jake Ellenberger and John Howard.
