Rob McCullough vs. Anthony Pettis likely for WEC 44
by Jacob Camargo on August 25, 2009

A lightweight bout between former WEC lightweight champion Rob McCullough and undefeated prospect Anthony Pettis will take place on the WEC 44 event in November, according to Sherdog.com.

McCullough is coming off a split decision win over Marcus Hicks at WEC 39 in March and is now 2-1 in his last three bouts. He was defeated by Donald Cerrone at WEC 36 and was victorious over Kenneth Alexander at WEC 34. During his long tenure with the WEC, McCullough has put together an 8-3 mark with the promotion, with other notable wins coming over Olaf Alfonso and Rich Crunkilton. He holds notable wins outside of the WEC over William Sriyapai and Nam Phan.

Pettis was orignally set to fight Alex Karalexis at WEC 43 in October, but that bout was scrapped after Karalexis was injured during training. Pettis was removed from the event all together.

Pettis made a successful WEC debut in his last bout defeating Mike Campbell at WEC 41 in June.  Since turning pro in December 2007, he has put together a perfect 7-0 start to his MMA career. The longtime Gladiators Cage Fighting veteran has finished 6 of his 7 career wins.

Though not officially announced yet, WEC 44 is expected to take place on November 11, with the location yet to be determined. The event will likely be headlined by a featherweight title bout between current WEC featherweight champ Mike Brown and top contender Jose Aldo.
