An opponent is still being sought for former EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler for the upcoming Showtime televised Strikeforce: "Evolution" event on Dec. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
Lawler was in talks to face fellow hard-hitting middleweight Benji Radach on the main card of the event, however, Radach reportedly has yet to be medically cleared to begin training following surgery on his right hand this past April. Radach broke his hand in several locations during his fight against Scott Smith at April's Strikeforce "Shamrock vs. Diaz." He suffered a third-round knockout loss against Smith at the event.
With Lawler still expected to appear on the Dec. 19 card, which is less then three weeks away, Strikeforce will likely finalize an opponent for the H.I.T Squad product in the coming days.
Lawler (16-5) hasn't fought since losing to Jake Shields via first round submission at Strikeforce "Lawler vs. Shields" in June. Prior to the loss, he was on a six-fight unbeaten streak, which included wins over Joey Villasenor, Frank Trigg, Murilo Rua and Scott Smith.
During his eight-year career, Lawler has fought for notable promotions such as; Extreme Challenge, SuperBrawl, King of the Cage, Icon Sport, Pride and the UFC. He has finished 14 of his 16 career wins including 13 coming by TKO or KO and holds other notable career wins over the likes of Aaron Riley, Tiki Ghosn, Chris Lytle and Falaniko Vitale(x2).
Strikeforce: "Evolution" is headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson and interim lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez. In addition, middleweights sluggers Cung Le and Scott Smith will battle it out. Other bouts featured include Matt Lindland vs. Ronald "Jacare" Souza and Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. Mike Whitehead.
