Rolles Gracie and Co. "really close" to a matchup with Fedor Emelianenko
by Hubert Lau on April 11, 2012

With rumors circulating around Fedor Emelianenko's next opponent, Rolles Gracie seems to be a likely matchup for the "The Last Emperor".

"Where there is smoke there is fire. My manager is under negotiation with M1. We're really close to make this fight against Fedor to happen," Gracie said through his twitter account.

The 33-year-old Gracie sports a 6-1 MMA record, riding a three fight win streak. Gracie last saw action at One FC's Battle of Heroes earlier this year where he defeated Bob Sapp. Gracie has also fought in the UFC, debuting at UFC 109 against Joey Beltran. This would be his sole Octagon appearance as he was defeated by Beltran via second round TKO.

For Emelianenko, his name has been tied with numerous organizations as of late. Super Fight League and even hopes of arriving to the UFC are apparently on hold for the moment as his management, M-1 Global, finalizes the matchup with Gracie.

Emelianenko is currently on a two fight win streak. He defeated MMA journeyman, Jeff Monson, late last year and last KO'ed Satoshi Ishii at Fight For Japan: Genki Desu Ka Omisoka 2011.

It still remains to be seen if Gracie will indeed be Emelianenko's next fight but this matchup is more probable than M-1's bid to bring Emelianenko to the UFC.
