Rory Markham vs. T.J. Grant cancelled from this weekend's TUF 9 Finale fight card
by Jacob Camargo on June 15, 2009

Saturday's "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 9 Finale fight card will now go on minus one fight, as a scheduled welterweight bout between Rory Markham and T.J. Grant has been scrapped from the event.

The fight was nixed because Markham was forced to pull out due to a quad injury he suffered while training and the UFC was unable to find a suitable replacement in such a short period of time. News of the injury and cancellation of the bout came via MMAWeekly.com. Both opponents will be slotted back to an event in August or September.

Rory Markham was looking to rebound from a devastating knockout loss to Dan Hardy at UFC 95 in February. Markham is now 1-1 with the UFC as he previously defeated Brodie Farber in his UFC debut at Ultimate Fight Night 14 last July. IFL veteran, Markham, is clearly a finisher as all 16 of his career wins have been stoppages.

The longtime TKO and KOTC veteran, Grant, is currently in the midst of a five-fight win streak and he most recently defeated Pride veteran Ryo Chonan in his octagon debut at UFC 97 in April. Grant sports a 14-2 MMA record, with 13 of his wins being stoppages and he holds notable wins over UFC veterans Chad Reiner and Forrest Petz.

TUF 9 finale takes place this Saturday, June 20, from the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. In the main event of the evening, TUF 1 middleweight winner and former welterweight contender Diego Sanchez will take on rising lightweight contender Clay Guida and Nate Diaz will battle Joe Steveson in another lightweight bout slated for the main card. The event will also feature the lightweight and welterweight finals from this season's Ultimate Fighter reality series.
