Roxanne Modafferi vs. Sarah Kaufman slated for Strikeforce women's bantamweight title in July
by Natalia Baage on June 07, 2010

Roxanne Modafferi and Sarah Kaufman are slated to face each other for the women's bantamweight title at Strikeforce's ShoMMA 9 in July.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed the news with MMAJunkie, and while no contracts have been signed, the wheels have been set in motion to try to lock this fight.

Kaufman challenged Modafferi to a fight via The Underground forum shortly after Modafferi's latest win over Tara LaRosa.

Modafferi (15-5), who holds wins over LaRosa, Marloes Coenen, Molly Helsel and Jennifer Howe (x2) is currently listed as the second best 135-pound female fighter in the world. Formerly a student of celebrated trainer Mark DellaGrote, she is well-rounded, with most of her wins coming via decision.

While there has been some confusion surrounding whether Kaufman (11-0) is still under contract with Strikeforce, Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz confirmed with MMAFighting that she is, and will most likely fight another three times this year. Kaufman, who is the first Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion, holds wins over Helsel, Miesha Tate and Takayo Hashi.
