The Ultimate Fighter season 8 light-heavyweight winner Ryan Bader will go for his third straight win inside the octagon when he meets Eric Schafer at UFC 104. Bader himself announced the news on his official Twitter account today.
Bader (9-0) is coming off a win over Carmelo Marrero at UFC Fight Night 18 in April. He hasn't competed since the event due to a knee injury he suffered during the fight in which he tore both his MCL and PCL. Prior to the UFN 18 bout, Bader won the TUF 8 light-heavyweight tournament by defeating Vinny Magalhaes in his official UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale this past December. The Arizona Combat Sports fighter, Bader, sports an undefeated 9-0 MMA record, with seven of his wins coming via stoppage.
Eric Schafer was originally set to fight at last month's TUF 9 finale against Tomasz Drwal, however he was forced off of that bout with an injury.
Schafer (11-3-2) has won his past four bouts, which include two straight over Houston Alexander and most recently Antonio Mendes at UFC 93 in January. Prior to the win streak, Schafer suffered two straight losses inside the octagon against Michael Bisping and Stephan Bonnar. Nine of Schafer's eleven career wins have been stoppages including 7 by submission.
UFC 104 takes place on October 24 in Los Angeles, CA. The event will be headlined by newly-minted UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida as he makes his first title defense against 2005 Pride FC Middleweight Grand Prix winner Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. In the co-main event bout, top heavyweight contenders Cain Velaquez and Shane Carwin will square off in a fight that could very well determine the next heavyweight title challenger.
