28-year-old Ryan Couture is set to fight undefeated Matt Ricehouse at Strikeforce Challengers 16 on June 24 according to mmafighting.com
Surprisingly, fighting wasn't a priority for Couture early in his life. He graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in mathematics and spent time working as a banker before deciding to follow in the footsteps of his hall-of-fame father.
After compiling a 5-1-1 amateur mixed martial arts record, Couture turned pro and signed with the Strikeforce promotion in late 2010. He made an immediate impact by winning his first two fights. Couture only needed 75 seconds to sink in a triangle choke against Lucas Stark in his pro debut at Strikeforce Challengers: Riggs vs. Taylor. In his next bout, Couture won via rear naked choke in the third round against Lee Higgins at Strikeforce: Beerbohm vs. Healy.
Opposing Couture in the cage on June 24 is Ricehouse. Ricehouse (4-0) has three stoppages and one decision to his credit.
Currently Couture trains at Xtreme Couture with his father and other prominent mixed martial artist such as UFC lightweight Gray Maynard and current featherweight Tyson Griffin.
