Lightweight sluggers Sam Stout and Jeremy Stephens have verbally agreed to face each other at UFC 113 on May 1 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
Stout (15-5-1) is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, most recently scoring an impressive unanimous decision win over Joe Lauzon at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 in a bout that earned both men "Fight of the Night". Prior to the wins, Stout had lost two straight against Rich Clementi and Terry Etim.
Stout has put together an even 4-4 record with the UFC, scoring other notable Octagon wins over Per Eklund, Matt Wiman. Beside the UFC, he has fought the majority of his six-year career with the TKO organization, putting together a perfect 11-0 record with the Canadian promotion.
Stephens (16-5) was originally set to fight Nik Lentz at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 20 card on Jan. 11, however, he was forced off of the event after suffering an injury in training.
Stephens hasn't fought since defeating Justin Buchholz at UFC Fight Night 19 in September. Prior to the win, he lost back-to-back fights in the Octagon against Joe Lauzon and Gleison Tibau. Like Stout, Stephens also sports a 4-4 UFC record, picking up other notable Octagon wins over Cole Miller and Rafael dos Anjos. The Midwest Cage Championships veteran has brutal knockout power, as he has finished 12 of his 16 career wins by TKO or KO.
Though not officially announced, UFC 113 is expected to be headlined by a light-heavyweight title rematch between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. In addition, former UFC light-heavyweight champions and bitter rivals Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans are in talks to square off on the card.
