Satoshi Ishii declares that he will defeat Fedor Emelianenko by decision in their upcoming bout on New Year's Eve according to mmamania.com.
"I would not say that I have any real advantage over Fedor the man is a legend and has faced all styles. But I am confident wherever this fight goes. Whether we stand and trade or on the ground," Ishii said.
Ishii (4-1-1) is an Olympic Judo gold medalist so it's not a secret where his strength lies. As Ishii points out, he is continuously working towards becoming a complete fighter and has confidence in his striking and grappling skills as well as his world class judo.
"He has become more tentative. You can see it in his fight with Jeff Monson. As for weaknesses he is a complete fighter. He can win fights both standing and on the ground. I feel that I will win this fight via decision," Ishii said.
Ishii's last bout ended in a draw against Pride and WEC veteran, Paulo Filho. He also holds a unanimous decision victory over MMA journeyman, Ikuhisa Minowa.
Going into the New Year's Eve bout, the most noticeable gap between Emelianenko and Ishii is their experience. Emelianenko last fought Jeff Monson to a unanimous decision victory, snapping a three fight losing streak, and it was also his 37 bout in his career. Ishii only has six fights to his credit.
Will Ishii be able to stun MMA world with a win over Emelianenko? Time will tell when they fight at Fight For Japan: Genki Desu Ka Omisoko 2011 scheduled on New Year's Eve.
