Despite Cung Le's recent assertions, Strikeforce's CEO, Scott Coker, says that the Vietnamese striker will continue his MMA career in Strikeforce and not in the UFC according to mmajunkie.com.
Le has been vocal in his desires to fight in his hometown of San Jose, California for UFC 139. A desired match-up with longtime UFC middleweight stable, Chris Leben, has also been voiced. Despite this, Coker reaffirms that the former Strikeforce middleweight champion will fight in a Strikeforce event before the year's end.
"Cung is going to fight in Strikeforce. Cung wants to fight in November because it's his home town. I'd like to see Cung fight in our December show." Coker said.
Le trains out of the American Kickboxing Academy based in San Jose, California and is an undefeated kick boxer who holds a 7-1 record in MMA. In his last bout over a year ago, Le defeated Scott Smith via KO from a spinning back kick and avenged his only loss in MMA.
Following that win, Le went on a hiatus from MMA competition to become an actor. He has appeared in numerous martial arts influenced films such as playing the role of Marshall Law in Tekken and co-starring with Jean-Claude Van Damme in an upcoming 2012 film, Dragon Eyes.
"At some point, when we have more crossovers in the future, if it does happen, then that obviously will happen. But right now, nothing's changed...We'll definitely have Cung back in the cage soon. We miss Cung Le." Coker said.
Le's opponent in his return has yet to be announced.
